Kettlebell Class

You asked for it and we are bringing it back!  We had an overwhelming request for KB class in our survey.  We are excited to announce we are starting this class Tuesday, August 2nd at 6:30pm with Colleen.

Many of you have probably seen Colleen killing it in the back room with her KBs.

Colleen Dooley is a IKFF Level 1 CKT and an active competitor in Girevoy Sport (Kettlebell Sport), coached by Ken Blackburn. She competes in one-arm long cycle (OALC) and long cycle and has earned the rank of Candidate for Master of Sport (CMS) in OALC and is currently working towards earning Master of Sport. She is excited for the opportunity to share her passion for kettlebells, both sport-style and fitness, with the members of CCA and help each of you adapt the technique to your needs and promises at the very least to help make your kettlebell practice back-pain free.

We will see how this class goes and hope to add more time options on the future.  The workout each week will be posted along with the workout for Tuesday.

Saturday ABs and Open Gym Schedule

With Coach Meg and Lou's wedding tonight, things may (most likely) get a little crazy. With that being said tomorrow mornings ABS class is going to be canceled. Open gym will still be from 9-12pm. At 1030, if anyone is interested, we will join a fun workout like last Saturday if you were here.  It won't be a team workout, but a long one with multiple different parts.

Barbell Club Opening

We are excited to announce we have 1 opening in our Barbell Club.  The Collar City Barbell Club was started last year by Ray Brunk and is coached by both Ray and Mike Geraci.  The club works out Tuesday's and Thursday's from 6-8:30 and Saturday mornings from 9-11:30.   The major focus is on the clean and jerk and snatch with other lifts done for strength and accessory work.  The cost is $100 per month or $165 for the inclusive gym and barbell club membership.

At the time the spot is open for an individual looking to gain more experience in these lifts and has done them before.  They should have the desire to compete in lifting meets, at least at the local level.

If you are interested please email info@collarcityathletics.com and let us know about yourself and your lifting goals.  We are hoping to have this slot filled by the end of the week.

Sunday July 3rd

The gym is going to be closed tomorrow Sunday July 3rd. There will be no open gym or Hero workout. Reminder that on Monday the 4th there is only going to be a team workout from 9 till everyone is done (you will most likely be out of the gym by 11). The workout is going to start at 930, so make sure you are at the gym by 9ish to get ready. If you aren't coming in have a great holiday weekend and see everyone on Tuesday.

July 4th and More!!!

This Monday there will be a special 4th of July team workout at the gym. It is going to start around 930. If you plan on coming plan on getting to the gym for 9am to get yourself ready. If you don't have a partner prior to coming we can pair you up with someone when you get to the gym.

Starting next week if anyone is interested in joining Coach Kyle for a longer workout (about 1.5-2hrs) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday please feel free to come in. He will start working out at 2pm. Also on Saturdays if you would like to join both Coach Mike and Coach Kyle for a workout they will be starting around 1115-1130. If you would like to join plan to be at the gym for 1115 and also plan on being their for at least 75 mins. If you have any question let coach Kyle or Mike know.

Keep working hard and push through the workouts. Everyone is doing awesome. Look forward to watching crush workouts in the future.

Warm Weather and Hydration

The warm weather is finally coming!!!! With the warm weather comes the good old northeast humidity. With the increase temperature and humidity comes an increase in sweating. With the increase in sweating comes a decrease in water/electrolytes in your body. In order to make sure you are able to perform and recover the best in and after your workouts you need to make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and more specifically water. A good way to help ensure you are drinking enough water through the day is to drink 16oz of water before and after every meal. This will help keep you hydrated but also will help you eat less because you are filling yourself up with water before and after your meal. There will be a couple link at the bottom of this post. The first one will explain 5 different signs of being dehydrated. the second like will explain how to use the color of your urine as a judge for how hydrated you are. If you don't happen to read the articles the biggest thing you can take from this will be to just drink more water. If you are looking for a certain amount to hit, start with one gallon and go up from there.
